White Patches on Skin: Preventing and Treating Vitiligo!
White patches on the skin can also be referred to as Vitiligo.
It's a chronic disease and it basically means that the skin pigment is lost.
Some causes, signs and facts about Vitiligo:
- People younger than 20 are most likely to get them.
- Patches on the skin can be triggered by sunburn or lots of stress.
- If there is Vitiligo on your scalp it may cause a change in hair color.

- Don't expose your body to sunlight.
- Home remedies like Psoralen pills used in combination with UVA light can help to decrease white patches. Don't use Psoralen with out any knowledge of it, since it can have dangerous side effects.
- Creams like Anti-Vitiligo, Corticosteroid, Protopic and Elidel may also help reduce the white patches.
- Pigment transplantations have also been successful.
Some people have used dandruff shampoo to wash the affected areas and have achieved great success in removing the white patches on their skin.
Others say that white patches on your skin are not curable while some say that they tried something and it worked. Maybe it’s the skin type or the color of your skin that differs.
Fact is; some remedies will work for some people, while others need a different treatment.
Some recommend that if you have a light skin color you should go into the sun because it will help you to cure the pigment and restore your natural color.
You can also mask the appearance of Vitiligo by using makeup, self tanners, etc.
